OpenOffice.org announced the first build of OpenOffice.org 2.0.1 for Mac OS X (X11) that can run natively on the newly released Macintosh Intel desktops. No other fully equipped office suite can claim as much, and ours gives users not just standards compliance but real interoperability. NeoOffice is an office suite for Mac that is based on OpenOffice and LibreOffice. With NeoOffice, you can view, edit, and save OpenOffice documents, LibreOffice documents, and simple Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. Two engineers created NeoOffice in 2003 when they made OpenOffice run natively on OS X for the first time. This may be a bug in Mac OS X 10.3.x and 10.4.x which cannot be solved by OpenOffice.org developers. There are two known solutions: Even though the Finder has problems with passed through downloads from Safari the download often works when you copy the download url to the clipboard, switch to the Finder-Go-Connect to Server and paste the url. OpenOffice.org finally has a native version for Mac, which is why it doesn't need to run the X11 server (only available for Mac OS X Intel for now). Although OpenOffice.org doesn't automatically run the guide that allows you to select the kind of document you want, you can access the different applications from the corresponding menu bar: Text. The port to native Mac OS X will follow the release of Version 2.0 of OpenOffice.org. That version of the software for Windows, Solaris and Linux is slated to come out in the first quarter of 2005.
